Emanuel Della Torre
السيرة الذاتية
Dr Emanuel Della Torre is a rheumatologist, allergologist and immunologist in the Clinical Unit of Immunology, Rheumatology, Allergology and Rare Diseases, UnIRAR, directed by Professor Lorenzo Dagna.
He obtained his Degree in Medicine and Surgery, 2008, his Specialisation in Allergology and Clinical Immunology, 2014, and his PhD in Basic and Applied Immunology, 2018, with honours and honourable mention, from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, where, since September 2021, he has held the role of researcher with teaching assignments in the degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, MD Program, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Biotechnology.
In his clinical activity, Dr Della Torre follows patients with immuno-rheumatological diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthropathy, Sjögren’s syndrome, lupus erythematosus, gout, vasculitis, immunodeficiencies, osteoporosis, and allergological conditions such as rhinoconjunctivitis, asthma, chronic urticaria and food allergies.
In particular, within UnIRAR, he is Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Clinic dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of rare fibrosing diseases such as IgG4-related disease, retroperitoneal fibrosis, sclerosing mesenteritis, autoimmune pancreatitis, sarcoidosis, orbital pseudotumour and Castleman disease. He also collaborates with the Pancreas Unit and the Lymphoma Unit as an immuno-rheumatology consultant.
Thanks to a deep integration between clinical and laboratory activity, Dr Della Torre is constantly involved in translational research projects on immuno-rheumatological diseases. In particular, his research aims to translate the results of mechanistic studies into potential new therapies. After working for 3 years in the United States at the Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Dr Della Torre returned to Italy in 2018 to lead a research laboratory at the Division of Genetics and Cell Biology of Ospedale San Raffaele.
As of January 2024, Dr Della Torre is the author of more than 150 scientific publications in international journals, h-index 42 according to the Scopus platform. Through his work, he has contributed to the characterisation of IgG4-related disease, for which he is now considered a “World Expert” according to the Expertscape platform. He is Coordinator of the European study group on IgG4-related disease, European Reference Network - ERN, established by the European Commission, and Principal Investigator of numerous clinical studies conducted at UnIRAR aimed at identifying new therapies for IgG4-related disease. Finally, Dr Della Torre is a member of numerous national and international scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Rheumatology, SIR, the Italian Society of Allergology, Asthma and Clinical Immunology, SIAAIC, and the European League Against Rheumatism, EULAR, and has been a speaker at numerous national and international congresses on immunology, rheumatology, allergology and internal medicine.
