Dr. Francesca De Caro is an orthopedic specialist at the Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Surgery Unit of Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2008 and specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2014 at the University of Parma.
She was a research fellow at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Bologna (2014–2016) and subsequently worked at Humanitas Gavazzeni in Bergamo (2016–2018), before moving to Humanitas Castelli.
In 2019 she completed a traveling fellowship focused on patient-specific knee prosthetic surgery and sports traumatology at AZ Monica Hospital in Antwerp.
An expert in knee joint surgery, cartilage regenerative treatments, and prosthetic surgery, she also has strong expertise in sports traumatology. Her experience in sports medicine and cartilage repair allows her to treat complex pathologies at a high level, using various biological solutions and customized metallic implants.
In 2013 she carried out clinical and research activities at the University of Iowa City, USA. In 2020 she obtained a PhD at the University of Bologna in Pharmacological and Toxicological Sciences and received the Italian National Scientific Qualification for the role of Associate Professor in the academic field 06/F4.
Since 2025 she has been Vice President of the Cartilage Committee of SIGASCOT, Chair of the Fellowship Committee of ICRS, and member of the Gender Diversity Task Force of ISAKOS; since 2017 she has been Principal Investigator of clinical studies on cartilage regeneration.
Dr. De Caro has published several scientific studies and has participated in national and international orthopedic congresses.
