Professor Francesco Bandello is Director of the Ophthalmology Unit at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. He is Full Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.
Among Professor Bandello’s leadership positions are:
- President of the National College of Full Professors of Ophthalmology (CONPROSO);
- President of the ESASO Foundation (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology);
- President of the European Academy of Ophthalmology;
- Vice-President of EuroLam and Past President of EURETINA.
In addition, Professor Bandello is:
- Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Ophthalmology;
- Member of the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS);
- Member of the Board of Directors of SISO (Italian Society of Ophthalmological Sciences);
- Member of the National Technical Committee for the Prevention of Blindness and Visual Impairment;
- Member of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis and the National Academy of Medicine;
- Former member of the Board of Directors of the Jules Gonin Club and the Macula Society.
Professor Bandello’s main areas of interest include:
- Retinal diseases (diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vein and artery occlusions, etc.);
- Cataract;
- Ocular involvement in systemic diseases.
He is co-author of 12 books, has served as a peer reviewer for funding applications submitted to the National Eye Institute (NEI), is co-author of 1,045 articles indexed in PubMed, and serves as Principal Investigator in several clinical studies conducted according to ICH/GCP standards, primarily focused on retinal diseases.
