Francesco Giannini

Dr. Francesco Giannini is a cardiologist, Head of the Cardiology Unit at Policlinico San Marco and Interventional Cardiologist at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2007 from the University of Trieste and completed his specialization in Cardiology in 2012 at the same university. He also obtained a second-level Master’s degree in Interventional Cardiology at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
He has gained extensive clinical and research experience in leading national and international centers, including Isala Hospital in Zwolle (Netherlands), IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, and Maria Cecilia Hospital in Cotignola, where he served as Head of the Interventional Cardiology Unit.
Dr. Giannini is recognized for his expertise in personalized cardiovascular medicine and for adopting advanced techniques in the catheterization laboratory. His areas of expertise include:
- advanced structural heart procedures (TAVI, MitraClip, and other valve repair/replacement techniques)
- treatment of refractory angina
- complex coronary angioplasty
- use of mechanical circulatory support systems
Alongside his clinical activity, he is highly active in scientific research, with over 300 publications in international journals. He has served as principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous international clinical trials.
His main research areas include:
- pathophysiology and treatment of coronary and valvular diseases
- development of new transcatheter techniques
- advanced cardiovascular imaging
- integration of artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering in interventional cardiology
