Professor Franco Rongioletti is Head of the Clinical Dermatology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele and Full Professor of Dermatology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan. He teaches Dermatology in both the Medicine and Surgery degree program and the Dentistry degree program at the same university. He is also Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery of Miller University, Miami, Florida.
He previously served as Full Professor of Dermatology at the University of Cagliari, where he directed the Dermatology Clinic and the School of Specialization in Dermatology and Venereology.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa in 1982, he specialized in Dermatology in 1985, in Tropical Dermatology and Leprology in 1989 at the same university, and finally in Pathological Anatomy in 1994 at the University of Siena.
From a clinical perspective, Professor Rongioletti’s main interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases and skin tumors, with particular attention to carcinomas and melanoma. His interests also include cutaneous signs of systemic diseases, allergic skin diseases, common conditions such as acne, alopecia and hair disorders, monitoring of melanocytic nevi, sexually transmitted diseases, and rare diseases in both adults and children.
His research activity is particularly focused on:
- psoriasis
- atopic dermatitis
- hidradenitis suppurativa
- rosacea
- autoimmune and connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma
- malignant skin tumors such as melanoma
On these topics, he has conducted numerous Phase II and III clinical trials.
Professor Rongioletti is a member of the Center of Excellence for the Study of Molecular Mechanisms in Clinical Immunology (CEBR) at the University of Genoa and serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (JEADV) and Clinics in Dermatology.
He also holds institutional roles in several scientific societies: he is a Board Member of the Italian Society of Dermatology (SIDeMAST) and an Honorary Member of the Swiss Society of Dermatology (SGDV), the Serbian Society of Dermatovenereology (UDVS), the North American Society of Dermatology, the Maltese Society of Dermatology (MVD), the Bulgarian Society of Dermatologists, and the European Dermatology Forum (EDF).
He is the author of dermatology textbooks on malignant skin tumors and cutaneous manifestations of endocrine and dysmetabolic diseases. He has authored more than 370 original scientific articles published in international journals. His H-index is 37.
He has served as President of numerous Dermatology congresses and regularly participates as a speaker and moderator at national and international conferences in the field.
