Dr. Galyna Shabat is a surgeon, specialist in General Surgery, affiliated with the General Surgery Unit and Esophagus Center, and with the Digestive Endoscopy Service of IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.
In 2006, she graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University in Ukraine, obtaining a diploma of honor. She subsequently completed, with highest honors, her specialization course in General Surgery with the thesis “Role of calcinosis of the tunica media in the pathogenesis of tissue ischemia in patients with diabetes mellitus”, and the Clinical Research Doctorate in Surgery with the thesis: “The Dynamics of Bile Toxicity in Patients with Mechanical Jaundice and Choice of Surgical Treatment”.
She then worked in the university division of General Surgery of the National University of Ivano-Frankivsk, also dealing with digestive endoscopy and clinical research. She subsequently worked as surgeon and endoscopist at the National Cancer Institute of Kyiv, Ukraine.
From 2014 to 2016, she obtained the fellowship diploma in endoscopic surgery at IRCAD in Strasbourg, France.
In 2018, she completed a fellowship at the Colorectal Surgery Division of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston, United States), with which she still collaborates on several international-level research projects.
She obtained recognition by the Italian Ministry of Health (Sapienza University, Rome) of the Medicine and Surgery degree (2019) and specialization in General Surgery (2021) obtained in Ukraine.
In 2020, she obtained with highest honors the second-level Master’s degree in Operative Digestive Endoscopy at the University of Turin with the thesis: “Endoscopic stent ‘bridge to surgery’ versus emergency surgery in the treatment of left colon obstruction”.
Dr. Shabat’s main clinical activity concerns general and oncological surgery, and diagnostic and operative digestive endoscopy.
She is part of the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance with the role of Director of the Patients Education section (Patients Education Lead) and collaborates with the National University of Singapore’s Global Asia Institute (GAI).
