السيرة الذاتية
Professor Giulia Veronesi is Director of the Thoracic Surgery Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
She is also Full Professor at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. In addition, she practices at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1994, where she specialized in Digestive Surgery in 2000. She subsequently obtained a second specialization in Thoracic Surgery from the University of Modena in 2006.
Thanks to her experience at the European Institute of Oncology, where she worked for 15 years, and to her training at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris and at Humanitas, Professor Veronesi has been treating locally advanced thoracic oncological diseases for many years. Since 2007 in particular, she has focused on the minimally invasive robotic approach for the treatment of early-stage or locally advanced lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and myasthenia.
Professor Veronesi teaches robotic thoracic surgery in several Italian and international centers, including Barcelona, Pamplona, Geneva, Rome, Cuneo, Terni, Pescara, and Catania.
From a research perspective, Professor Veronesi coordinates several international studies, including a multicenter randomized trial comparing robotic surgery and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for the treatment of lung cancer. She is currently the principal investigator of research projects funded by AIRC, the Italian Ministry of Health, and the European Union aimed at developing increasingly effective lung cancer screening programs to enable early diagnosis and timely treatment of lung tumors (e.g., COSMOS 1 and 2 studies and the SMAC project).
She is the author of more than 302 scientific articles published in national and international journals and has authored 8 book chapters. Her H-index is 55.
Professor Veronesi founded and coordinates the Thoracic Robotic Group of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) and is a member of several scientific societies, including the International IASLC Strategic Screening Advisory Committee (SSAC), the European Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery (SICT), and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), where she is also a member of the Guidelines Working Group on early-stage and locally advanced lung cancer.
During her career, she has received numerous awards, including the “Women and Technologies” award for her work in robotic surgery and lung cancer screening (2017) and the “Robert J. Ginsberg Lectureship Award for Surgery”, awarded at the World Conference on Lung Cancer in Barcelona (2019).
