Giuseppe De Luca

Prof. Giuseppe De Luca is a Consultant for the Cardiology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio.
After completing his specialization in Cardiology, he worked for four years at ISALA Klinieken Hospital in Zwolle and at Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, before returning to Italy in 2006 as an interventional cardiologist at the Second University Hospital of Naples.
From 2007 to 2021, he served as Director of the University Hemodynamics Laboratory at AOU Maggiore della Carità in Novara, holding the position of Adjunct Professor and later Associate Professor at the University of Eastern Piedmont. From December 2021 to January 2023, he chaired the Department of Cardiology at the University of Sassari and directed the University Cardiology Unit of AOU Sassari. Since 2023, he has been Full Professor of Cardiology at the University of Messina. Since 2021, he has also been a consultant at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi–Sant’Ambrogio.
Prof. De Luca has performed more than 10,000 cardiovascular interventional procedures, including coronary, carotid, and lower-limb angioplasty, aortic endograft implantation, percutaneous treatment of valvular heart disease (TAVI, mitral and tricuspid clips), as well as percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage and interatrial defects (ASD/PFO).
He is the author of more than 500 publications in leading international scientific journals and has an H-index of 66. Considered one of the world’s leading experts in acute myocardial infarction, he has conducted numerous studies that have contributed to innovating and transforming the treatment of this condition. He has also carried out landmark research on the mechanisms of atherosclerosis, platelets, and several drugs used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
As Treasurer of the Sixth Committee of the European Society of Cardiology, he has authored numerous important position papers for the Society.
