Hassan Kandil

Dr. Hassan Kandil is a medical doctor and clinical lead for the adult cardiac surgery intensive care area at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato (Milan).

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1987 from the University of Genoa. In 1994, he obtained his specialization in Cardiac Surgery at the same university, and in 2007 he completed a second specialization in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University of Milan.

He gained professional experience as an intensivist physician at San Martino Hospital in Genoa until 1998, and subsequently at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.

Since 2021, Dr. Kandil has served as Clinical Head of the Postoperative Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at Policlinico San Donato, within the Department of Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Intensive Care.

Over the years, he has developed specific expertise in airway management, with particular focus on invasive and non-invasive ventilation techniques, tracheostomy access, and fiberoptic bronchoscopy diagnostics. He has performed approximately 500 tracheostomies in intensive care patients and is actively involved in the ECMO team for adult veno-venous and veno-arterial ECMO.

His professional career, which began in 1987, combines a solid surgical background with over twenty years of specialization in anesthesiology and cardiac surgical intensive care.
