Lavinia Barbieri

Dr. Lavinia Barbieri is junior medical officer at the Gastroenterological Surgery Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaeledirected by Professor Riccardo Rosati. She also collaborates as a General Surgeon dedicated to Digestive System Surgery with Casa di Cura La Madonnina and with the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Service at Zucchi Wellness Clinic.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 2012 from the University of Milan, in 2018 she specialized, at the same university, in General Surgery. Meanwhile, she also completed a short-term fellowship at the Gastric Cancer Center of Seoul (Korea) and a fellowship in Upper GI Surgery at St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London.
Dr. Barbieri focuses particularly on the diagnosis and treatment, surgical and/or endoscopic, of functional disorders of the esophagus and stomach such as:
- gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD);
- Barrett’s esophagus;
- hiatal hernias;
- motility disorders such as achalasia and diverticula;
- oncological diseases involving the esophagus, stomach and lower gastrointestinal tract.
She also performs diagnostic techniques with latest-generation technologies such as:
- high-resolution manometry;
- pH-impedance monitoring;
- pH monitoring with BRAVO capsule;
- gastroscopies and colonoscopies.
Regarding research activity, Dr. Barbieri is active in surgery for benign and oncological diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, also participating in national and international multicenter studies and authoring scientific publications in important sector journals as well as chapters of specialist books.
