Professor Massimo Falconi is Head of the Pancreatic Surgery Unit, Director of the Pancreas Translational & Clinical Research Center at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, and Full Professor of Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
His academic path began with a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Verona, where he later specialized in General Surgery and in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy.
He has participated in international research projects in countries such as Germany, Spain, Ecuador, and Japan. He is a member of several medical societies, including IAP (International Association of Pancreatology), EPC (European Pancreatic Club), ENETS (European NeuroEndocrine Tumor Society), and HPBA (Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary Association). In Italy, he is President of the Italian Association for the Study of the Pancreas (AISP), a member of SIC (Italian Society of Surgery) and SIGE (Italian Society of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy). Former President of ENETS (2016–2018), he is currently President of ItaNet.
His H-index is 79 (Scopus), and he is the author or co-author of more than 450 peer-reviewed articles published in high-impact journals (including Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, British Journal of Surgery, The Lancet, Annals of Surgery). He also serves as Area Associate Editor for the pancreatic and neuroendocrine tumor section of the journal Digestive and Liver Disease, the official journal of the Italian and French Gastroenterology Societies.
