His training took place during the 1970s with a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa and a specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology from the University of Milan. He then continued his education abroad by attending fellowships on knee prostheses in London and New York and on knee ligaments in Lyon.

In his activity, Professor Roberto D'Anchise mainly focuses on Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (particularly Sports Traumatology), degenerative joint diseases, and Arthroscopic and Prosthetic Knee Surgery. As first surgeon, he has performed more than 16,000 arthroscopic procedures and implanted more than 2,100 knee prostheses. In 2002, at the IRCCS Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute, he became the first orthopedic surgeon in Italy to perform a meniscus transplant.

He participates as Speaker or Moderator in a large number of national and international conferences on topics such as sports rehabilitation, prosthetic techniques, meniscal transplantation, degenerative knee joint disease, and minimally invasive surgical approaches. Thanks to his studies on autologous chondrocyte transplantation on membrane, in the years 2005-2006 he became member of the Advisory Committee of the Lombardy Region for guidelines on autologous cartilage membrane transplantation.

He collaborates with several Knee Surgery Units in Europe and the United States and has been President of the Italian Society of Knee Surgery. Professor D’Anchise is Founder and Editorial Director of the journal Artroscopia e Ginocchio, Co-founder of the Italian Society of Knee Arthroscopy Sport Cartilage Orthopedic Technologies (SIGASCOT), and member of prestigious expert groups such as the European Society for Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).
