Dr. Umberto Alfieri Montrasio is Head of the Foot and Ankle Surgery Unit (U.S.P.eC.) at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio and Adjunct Professor at the School of Specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan. He also collaborates with Casa di Cura La Madonnina and Palazzo della Salute - Wellness Clinic.
In 1990, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the State University of Milan and specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology five years later. Within the Unit he directs, Dr. Umberto Alfieri Montrasio treats all foot and ankle pathologies and traumatic conditions, performing major foot and ankle surgery as first surgeon. The conditions most commonly treated include ankle osteoarthritis, subtalar and midfoot osteoarthritis, Achilles tendon disorders, osteochondral lesions, rheumatoid foot, hallux valgus, hallux rigidus, metatarsalgia, claw toes and hammer toes, pronated foot, pediatric flatfoot, cavus foot, athlete’s foot disorders, and fractures involving the foot and ankle.
He is author of conference proceedings on various orthopedic topics such as osteochondral lesions of the ankle, ankle osteoarthritis, foot and ankle malalignment, midfoot and forefoot disorders, and acute and chronic Achilles tendon injuries. He organized the monographic course on Ankle Osteoarthritis within the International Consensus Conference in Milan (2013) and the XXXIII National Congress of the Italian Society of Foot and Ankle Surgery (SICP), a society in which he has held numerous positions, including President from 2015 to 2017. He is currently Past President of SICP.
His contributions appear in some of the most important national and international journals, including Foot and Ankle International, Minerva Ortopedica e Traumatologica, Foot and Ankle Surgery, Archivio di Ortopedia e Traumatologia, and Giornale Italiano di Ortopedia e Traumatologia. He has also written several chapters in the annual SICP monograph for at least 15 years.
