 Dr. Pedro Luis Berjano is Head of the GSpine4 Unit at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio. He also works at Villa Erbosa.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1988 from the University of Granada in Spain and subsequently specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Hospital Monografico di Traumatologia, Ortopedia y Rehabilitacion Asepeyo in Madrid. In 2003, he obtained his PhD from the University of Salamanca. Between 2003 and 2008, his degree and specializations were officially recognized in Italy and in the Swiss Confederation.

His career began in 1997 at the Hospital Monografico di Traumatologia, Ortopedia y Rehabilitacion Asepeyo in Madrid as Specialist Physician. He later became Head of the Spine Surgery Unit at the same hospital. At the same time, he became Deputy Director of the Orthopedic Specialization Program and Coordinator of the Clinical Research Unit. In 2003, he moved to Italy, launching spine surgery activities at the Istituti Clinici Zucchi in Monza. In 2009, he became Head of Spine Surgery at Clinica Santa Chiara in Locarno (Switzerland) and began his research activity at the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi. In 2013, he was appointed Head of Unit at the same institute.

His areas of expertise are minimally invasive spine surgery and its application to scoliosis, adult deformity surgery, and anterior spine surgery. He is considered by his colleagues one of the leading experts in minimally invasive lateral access surgery, revision surgery, and adult spinal deformity surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Pedro Berjano has been involved in teaching activities across Europe and the United States. He is member of numerous Italian and international Scientific Societies, including the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, the Spine Society of Europe, and the North American Spine Society. He currently serves as Lecturer for the Japanese Orthopedic Association, Fellowship and Spine Centers Director in AOSpine Europe and Southern Africa, President of SOLAS (Society of Lateral Access Surgery), and Deputy Editor of the European Spine Journal.

Since July 2022, he has been Chairman of AO Spine Europe and Southern Africa, appointed by the AO Foundation, one of the most renowned scientific communities in orthopedics and traumatology.

He is Speaker and Chairman at many national and international congresses, as well as author and co-author of more than 150 scientific articles in high-impact journals. His articles have received more than 1,200 citations.
