Biography
Dr Alessandra Scalese is an orthopaedic specialist and Head of the Hand Surgery III Unit at Istituto Clinico San Siro.
In 2004, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, where, in 2009, she specialised in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
She began her training in hand surgery during her specialisation years in the Hand Surgery I Department of IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, where she took on the role of medical director after obtaining her specialisation diploma.
She attended advanced training courses in Italy and abroad, especially focused on fracture treatment, the use of hand and wrist prostheses, ultrasound and ultrasound-guided surgery, and arthroscopic treatment of fractures and capsuloligamentous injuries of the wrist and hand.
Dr Scalese deals with diseases affecting the hand, wrist and elbow, restoring their lost function. Specifically, she treats degenerative arthritic diseases, tendinopathies, nerve compressions in the upper limb, nerve injuries and their outcomes, hand and wrist traumatology, Dupuytren’s disease, post-traumatic outcomes, and capsuloligamentous injuries of the wrist and hand.
Over time, she has developed a particular interest in the use of hand prostheses, as well as in minimally invasive techniques, such as ultrasound-guided techniques and the arthroscopic approach.
She is a member of the Italian Society for Surgery of the Hand, SICM, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, ASSH. She has collaborated in writing several chapters of orthopaedics textbooks and has presented the results of her clinical and surgical activity through communications at national congresses.
