Dr. Aurora Mirabile is Head of the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers within the Medical Oncology Division of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan and carries out teaching activities in the specialization school of Otorhinolaryngology.

After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2006, she specialized with honors in Medical Oncology at the University of Milan in 2009.

From 2009 to 2014, she worked as Medical Oncologist at the Unit for Medical Treatment of Head and Neck Tumors at the National Cancer Institute of Milan. From 2015 to 2017, she served as First-Level Medical Director in the Medical Oncology Unit at Sant’Antonio Abate Hospital in Gallarate (VA), ASST Valleolona, mainly dealing with head and neck and gastrointestinal tumors.

Since 2017, she has been working under a freelance consultancy contract at the Department of Medical Oncology of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, as Referent for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors, and since 2021 as Head of the program.

Over the years, Dr. Mirabile has developed a particular interest in head and neck neoplasms, evidence-based medicine, clinical methodology in oncology, and quality of life. Specifically, the diseases treated include tumors of the oral cavity (mouth), oropharynx (base of tongue, tonsils and soft palate), nasopharynx (posterior part of the nose), paranasal sinuses and nasal cavities, larynx, hypopharynx, and salivary glands.

She is also responsible for the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway of these patients, collaborating with ENT surgeons and radiation oncologists, as well as radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and pathologists, in order to optimize treatment plans and ensure access to more precise, specific, and effective technologies, approaches, and therapies. In addition, she coordinates the multidisciplinary activity of various specialists supporting the patient (e.g., nutritionist, geriatrician, psychologist, dentist, wound care specialist) to optimize quality of life and ensure the necessary assistance throughout the therapeutic pathway.

Dr. Mirabile is also Principal Investigator of phase III clinical studies involving new biological and immunotherapeutic drugs, both for locally advanced and metastatic disease, with the aim of offering patients access to increasingly cutting-edge treatments.

Author and co-author of 52 publications including full papers, abstracts, and book chapters in international and national journals. Principal Investigator and Sub-investigator in more than 40 GCP clinical studies. Dr. Mirabile is an active member of national and international oncology associations such as ESMO, AIOCC, AIOM, ECHNO, EORTC, and NICSO.
