Biography
Prof. Chiara Livia Lanzani is Director of the Nephrology and Dialysis Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. She is also Director of the Residency Program in Nephrology and Associate Professor of Nephrology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
In 1994, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan and, in 1998, she specialized in Nephrology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.
In 2000, she obtained a Master’s degree in Genetic Epidemiology at the European School for Advanced Studies in Molecular Medicine and Genetic Epidemiology at the IUSS University School for Advanced Studies in Pavia (IUSS).
In the following years, she attended advanced specialist courses focused on the study of complex diseases such as chronic kidney disease and arterial hypertension. Her training also includes study periods abroad (Leuven, Belgium).
Prof. Lanzani’s research activity began with the study of arterial hypertension as a polygenic disease and subsequently expanded into various fields.
Since 2010, her research has also included the translation of findings from hypertension studies into the field of clinical nephrology. In recent years, her work has further expanded to include population-based studies in adolescents and the elderly, aimed at identifying the complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors in the development of arterial hypertension and kidney damage.
During the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, Prof. Lanzani coordinated the NefroCOVID project at San Raffaele Hospital.
She is a member of several national and international consortia, including international consortia focused on the study of kidney diseases in adults and children.
She is Principal Investigator (PI), co-PI, or investigator in numerous sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical studies (extensive experience). She is a Full Member of the Italian Society of Nephrology and, since 2022, a member of ERA-EDTA (European Renal Association).
