Biography

Dr. Elisa Bortolin is a psychologist and carries out her clinical and research activities at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato within the Neurology Department, with particular focus on clinical neuropsychology and sleep medicine, as part of the Neurology and Stroke Unit directed by Prof. Maria Salsone.

She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques in 2020 from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, graduating with 110/110 cum laude, presenting a neuroscience thesis on brain plasticity in models of sensory deafferentation. In 2022, she completed her Master’s Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience curriculum, at the same University, graduating with 110/110 cum laude and honorable mention.

During her Master’s program, she conducted experimental research at the PET/MRI and Molecular PET Imaging Laboratory, contributing to a study on synucleinopathies analyzed along the prodromal and clinical continuum. She subsequently completed her post-graduate internship at the Neuropsychology and Neurocognitive Rehabilitation Unit of San Raffaele Hospital, deepening her expertise in the assessment and management of patients with cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders.

In 2023, she obtained her professional license to practice as a psychologist from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and was registered with the Lombardy Board of Psychologists. In the same year, she worked as a research fellow at the University of Pavia, participating in the international project “Psychosis-Risk Outcomes Network (ProNET)”, focused on identifying predictive biomarkers in individuals at clinical high risk of psychosis.

Since 2023, she has been attending the School of Specialization in Psychotherapy – Centro Berne, with a Relational Transactional Analysis approach. Since 2024, she has been a PhD candidate in Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, conducting research dedicated to the prodromal phases of neurodegenerative diseases, with particular attention to REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD) as a possible early marker of synucleinopathies.

At Policlinico San Donato, she performs clinical activities conducting neuropsychological assessments within the Neurology Department and within the Brain Health Service, a service dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, and monitoring of cognitive disorders, with particular attention to individuals with Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD). In parallel, she conducts clinical research integrating cognitive, clinical, and biomarker data for the early identification of individuals at risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

Since 2024, she has also been providing private clinical practice in psychological counseling and psychotherapy for young adults and adults, with specific attention to the support of caregivers of patients with neurological conditions.

She is actively involved in national and international research projects and is author and co-author of scientific contributions published in international journals.
