Biography

Dr. Filippo Nocera is an ophthalmologist within the Ophthalmology Unit of IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, directed by Dr. Gaspare Monaco. He also sees patients at Punto RAF Respighi.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1990 from the University of Milan with top marks, and obtained his specialization in Ophthalmology in 1994 at the same university. In 1996 he also completed the Specific Training Course in General Medicine of the Lombardy Region, expanding his clinical expertise in the comprehensive management of patients.

During his career he has held the position of Consultant Ophthalmologist at major reference hospital institutions, including the Istituto Auxologico Italiano in Milan, where he served as Assistant Head of Ophthalmology, performing anterior segment and vitreoretinal surgery; and the Fatebenefratelli and Ophthalmic Hospital of Milan, where he served as Assistant Head of the Second Ophthalmology Division, with surgical activity focused on anterior segment and vitreoretinal procedures.

Dr. Nocera has developed extensive clinical and surgical experience in ophthalmology, with particular expertise in:

  • anterior segment surgery
  • refractive surgery
  • vitreoretinal surgery

He has performed numerous surgical procedures as first operator, particularly including:

  • cataract surgery and anterior segment surgery
  • refractive surgery for the correction of visual defects
  • vitreoretinal surgery, including retinal detachment, macular pucker, macular hole, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration
  • secondary implantation of an artificial intraocular lens in aphakic eyes

He is also experienced in the management of ophthalmological emergencies, with a rigorous, analytical, and problem-solving clinical approach, combined with clear and effective communication with patients.
