Biography
Dr. Francesco Azzolini is Head of the Functional Unit of Operative Endoscopy within the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, directed by Professor Silvio Danese. He also collaborates with the Digestive Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Service of Policlinico San Marco and with Centro Diagnostico Treviglio.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna in 1995, he specialized in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy in 2000 at the University of Modena, and subsequently in General Surgery at the University of Ferrara in 2013. During his studies, he completed training periods abroad at Jichi Medical University, Tochigi in Japan, and at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University in Shanghai. In 2015, he obtained a managerial training and certification course for healthcare executives at the Faculty of Economics and Commerce of the University of Parma.
He performs diagnostic and operative gastroenterological endoscopic procedures involving the digestive system (diagnostic and operative colonoscopies and gastroscopies), pancreas and biliary tract (esophageal, enteral, biliary and colonic stents), both elective and emergency procedures.
Dr. Azzolini deals with the endoscopic treatment of complex lesions of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum and colon, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) in the various segments of the digestive system (esophagus, stomach, colorectum), and Esophageal Achalasia (he routinely performs treatment of achalasia with all techniques, particularly Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM)). Francesco Azzolini is also expert in the treatment of Gastroparesis with G-POEM.
From the research point of view, he mainly deals with the endoscopic treatment of colon adenomas, Early Gastric Cancer and dysplastic lesions of the stomach, as well as Esophageal Achalasia and gastroparesis.
He is author and co-author of more than 50 scientific articles published in sector journals, and his H-index is 7. He constantly participates in congresses and conferences of national and international relevance. He is a member of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED).
