Dr Francesco Trevisani is a nephrologist in the Urology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, directed by Professor Francesco Montorsi. He also collaborates with Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

Dr Trevisani graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan in 2009 with a thesis based on the genetics of nephropathies. In 2015, he specialised in Nephrology with full marks at the same university, under the supervision of Professor Paolo Manunta, with the thesis “Molecular and Clinical Biomarkers of Chronic Kidney Disease and Hypertension following Radical Nephrectomy for Renal Carcinoma”, an experimental translational thesis awarded a grant by the Italian Society of Nephrology and carried out during the final year of his specialisation at the Center of Molecular Pathology, The Institute of Cancer Research, The Royal Marsden, London, under the supervision of Professor Nicola Valeri. In 2019, he obtained with honours an International PhD in Molecular Medicine from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele with the translational research project “Kidney cancer and renal surgery: new molecular and histological predictors of cancer aggressiveness and glomerular filtration rate decline”, under the supervision of Professor Francesco Montorsi. The thesis subsequently contributed to the creation of an international patent application filed under the PCT in January 2020.

From a clinical perspective, Dr Trevisani works as a consultant nephrologist within the Urology Unit directed by Professor Francesco Montorsi, focusing mainly on onco-nephrology and uro-nephrology.

With regard to scientific activity, he carries out clinical and translational research at the Urological Research Institute, URI, directed by Professor Andrea Salonia. Together with Dr Arianna Bettiga, he is responsible for the international translational research project RE.ME.DIET., aimed at preventing kidney diseases through epigenetic modifications promoted by the Mediterranean diet.

Dr Trevisani has also been a member of the European Renal Association, ERA-EDTA, since 2014 and, since 2017, has served as a Board Member of the international nephrology group DIABESITY, a working group promoted by ERA-EDTA to investigate the relationships between kidney diseases, diabetes and obesity. Every year, he participates in international nephrology and urology congresses, presenting the results of translational research studies conducted within the Urological Research Institute.

Finally, Dr Trevisani is the founder and CEO of the biomedical start-up “Biorek”, focused on the development of new diagnostic kits for the diagnosis and prognosis of kidney cancer. In 2017, he was among the winners of the first edition of the “Open Accelerator Z-Cube” acceleration programme promoted by the pharmaceutical group Zambon for “BIOREK, Biomarkers of Renal Cancer”.
