Biography

Dr. Irene Borzillo is a cardiologist at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan, within the Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiology and Hemodynamics Unit directed by Prof. Chessa.

She has a particular interest in the diagnosis of cardiac anomalies in the fetal period and is involved in the management of the birth of newborns with heart disease, as well as in the evaluation and follow-up of pediatric patients with congenital heart conditions.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2019 from the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. She subsequently obtained her specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases in February 2025 at the University of Turin, completing a training pathway focused on both clinical practice and research.

In 2024, she completed a Research Fellowship at the University of California – San Francisco (UCSF), one of the most advanced international reference centers in the field of fetal cardiology.

She completed her training in “Perinatal” Cardiology at the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, participating in highly specialized clinical and research activities.

In 2025, she won the “Federico Marsico” award at the national Pediatric Cardiology congress for the originality and scientific relevance of her work on fetal and neonatal echocardiographic predictors of survival in Ebstein’s anomaly.

Her main areas of interest include:

  • the diagnosis of complex congenital heart diseases in prenatal and neonatal settings;
  • personalized and multidisciplinary management of pediatric cardiac patients, with particular attention to quality of life;
  • technological innovation and the application of artificial intelligence in pediatric cardiology.
