During his training and professional career, Professor Vecchi attended important international clinical and academic institutions, including the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York (USA), where he completed a continuous fellowship period in 1985 and 1986. From that moment on, the professor collaborated on several occasions with the same College as well as with other prestigious international gastroenterology institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western University, and Rutgers University, where he carried out short periods of activity as visiting scientist and visiting professor.

As regards his academic career, in 2002 he was appointed by the University of Milan as Associate Professor in Gastroenterology; from 2015 until the end of October 2025 he held the position of Full Professor in this specialty at the same University.

In 2017 he returned to Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan with the role of Director of the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Unit, a position he held until the end of October 2025. Here he had the opportunity to carry out clinical and research activities in all the fundamental fields of Gastroenterology, coordinating one of the most active, productive and renowned gastroenterology structures in Italy. Professor Vecchi is still a member of the hospital’s Technical-Scientific Council.
