Dr. Ornella Riccardi is an internal medicine physician and deputy physician at the Medicine Unit of IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio in Milan.

She graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1998 from the University of Pavia, where she subsequently obtained her specialization in Internal Medicine in 2004.

During her specialization, she worked in nursing homes (RSA) and at Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia, where she carried out clinical activity in the cardiovascular field, dealing with hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, and cardiovascular prevention, in addition to collaborating with plastic surgery for the advanced management of diabetic ulcers.

Over the course of her career, she has gained extensive clinical experience in different hospital and community settings. She later worked at Istituto Clinico Humanitas in emergency and urgent care and, for several years, in cardiac and respiratory rehabilitation, dealing alongside outpatient cardiovascular prevention with:

  • inpatient ward clinical management;
  • functional tests (stress tests, walking tests, and cardiopulmonary testing);
  • respiratory function tests and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

In this context, she held the role of adjunct professor, carrying out tutoring and teaching activities at the University of Milan.

From 2014 to 2018, she worked at Policlinico San Donato, where she was involved in post-acute cardiac rehabilitation, managing patients who had undergone complex cardiac surgery and those affected by cardiac and metabolic failure. In this area, she developed expertise in:

  • emergency management;
  • interventional procedures (electrical cardioversions, thoracentesis);
  • advanced wound care;
  • management of metabolic diseases and cardiovascular risk;
  • use of diagnostic tools such as blood pressure and metabolic Holter monitoring and basic internal ultrasound.

Since 2018, she has held the role of reference internal medicine physician for the management of complex orthopedic patients at the same hospital, focusing on pre-operative assessment and post-operative management of patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, and endocrine-metabolic comorbidities. She also worked in geriatric rehabilitation and in the management of post-stroke and orthopedic patients, later assuming the role of deputy head physician at the Medicine Unit of Fondazione Don Gnocchi – Istituto Palazzolo in Milan, where she was responsible for:

  • anticoagulant therapy;
  • clinical appropriateness and supervision of medical records.

Finally, she carried out tutoring activities for the School of Specialization in Geriatrics at the University of Milan.

Dr. Riccardi is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in the cardiovascular and metabolic fields, with contributions presented at national congresses and published in scientific journals.
