Dr Rosamaria Nitti is a haematologist at the Immunohaematology and Transfusion Medicine Service of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
In 2018, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery, International MD Program in English, from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, where she specialised in Haematology in 2023.
During her studies, in 2016, she began attending the Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit, combining clinical activity with observational clinical research. In 2018, she further explored her interest in bone marrow transplantation through a pre-graduate training period at the Service d’Hématologie clinique et thérapie cellulaire of Hôpital Saint-Antoine in Paris.
Since 2022, she has worked at the Immunohaematology and Transfusion Medicine Service, particularly in the Therapeutic Apheresis Unit and the Transfusion Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Ospedale San Raffaele.
She currently deals with therapeutic apheresis, including the collection of stem cells and lymphocytes for autologous and allogeneic use, in adult and paediatric patients. She also deals with the assessment of eligibility for donation in family bone marrow donors and with cell collections dedicated to cellular therapies, including within clinical trials.
In the outpatient setting, she deals with the diagnostic assessment and treatment of patients with anaemia and thrombocytopenia, with particular experience in autoimmune cytopenias, including autoimmune thrombocytopenia and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. She manages patients requiring chronic transfusion support and follows, within a multidisciplinary team, patients with chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms, including systemic mastocytosis.
She also deals with Patient Blood Management, with particular attention to the optimisation of iron and vitamin reserves and the treatment of anaemia in the preoperative setting, in order to reduce the use of perioperative transfusions.
She has published more than 10 articles and numerous abstracts, also presented orally at national and international congresses, in the field of allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplantation and autologous and allogeneic donor mobilisation.
She is a member of EBMT, European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, and collaborates with the Autoimmune Diseases Working Party in scientific research activities and educational projects.
