Biography
Dr. Sandro Passaretti is Head of the Functional Unit of Digestive Pathophysiology within the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele directed by Professor Silvio Danese, and collaborates with Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
He is also contract professor at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1980 from the University of Milan and subsequently, at the same institution, specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 1984 and in Pharmacology for Medicine in 1988.
Over the years, he completed training periods abroad at the Academisch Ziekenhuis of the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven (Belgium), at Creighton University in Omaha (USA), and at the University of Sheffield (Great Britain). From 1988 to 2001, he was instructor and co-director of postgraduate courses on esophageal diseases organized at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Regarding clinical activity, Dr. Passaretti deals with gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, eosinophilic esophagitis, dyspepsia, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. From the research point of view, he deals with all pathologies related to aspects of digestive pathophysiology.
Regarding diagnostic tests performed by the doctor at Casa di Cura La Madonnina, these include: high-resolution esophageal manometry, 24-hour esophageal pH-metry, 24-hour esophageal impedance monitoring, breath tests (for lactose intolerance, glucose for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SIBO), and Helicobacter pylori).
At IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, in addition to those listed above, he performs: traditional esophageal and anorectal manometry, octanoic acid breath test for measurement of gastric emptying time, fructose breath test for diagnosis of fructose malabsorption, lactulose breath test to measure oro-cecal transit time and possible bacterial overgrowth, and biofeedback – pelvic floor rehabilitation.
He is author and co-author of more than 120 indexed articles published in national and international journals, of 3 books on digestive diseases and their diagnostics, and of 2 books on the use of the internet in medical sciences. His H-index is 18.
He is constantly invited as speaker at courses, meetings and congresses of national and international importance.
