Biography
Dr. Umberto Capitanio is a urologist and Deputy Chief Physician at the Urology Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele.
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 2006 from Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, where he later specialized in Urology in 2012.
He is an adjunct professor at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele and has worked at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal in Canada. In June 2021, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor.
He is the Head of scientific research in kidney cancer at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele and, since 2020, has also been Head of the Functional Unit of the Operative Endoscopy and Day Surgery Service at the same institution.
In 2020, he received the Matula Award, presented to the urologist with the best scientific profile at the national level.
Dr. Capitanio performs both outpatient and surgical activities, with a particular focus on endoscopic and robotic surgery.
His main areas of interest include the diagnosis and treatment of major urological, andrological, and uro-oncological conditions, including:
- kidney cancer
- prostate cancer
He is an Executive Member of the European Guidelines Panel (RCC section) and an Executive Member of the Video Committee of the European Association of Urology. He is also the founder and president of the third-sector organization “Storia Buffa ETS”, an association committed to supporting and promoting children’s psychosocial development and well-being.
He is the author of more than 500 original scientific articles published in international peer-reviewed journals (h-index 77). He regularly participates as a speaker and moderator at international congresses in the field.
