Biografía

El profesor Oreste Davide Gentilini es desde 2015 jefe de la Unidad de Cirugía de Mama y responsable de la Breast Unit del IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele de Milán. También colabora con Casa di Cura La Madonnina y con el Policlinico San Marco de Bérgamo.

Es además profesor asociado de Cirugía General en la Universidad Vita-Salute San Raffaele de Milán.

Es profesor titular en los programas de grado de Medicina y Cirugía, International MD Program, en la Escuela de Especialización en Cirugía General y en el grado en Obstetricia de la Universidad Vita-Salute San Raffaele.

Es también miembro fundador y presidente de la organización internacional de investigación EUBREAST.

Obtuvo la licenciatura en Medicina y Cirugía en 1993 y la especialización en Cirugía General en 1999 en la Universidad de Milán, ambas con honores. Desde 2001 se dedica al tratamiento y a la investigación del cáncer de mama después de haber realizado una fellowship de investigación en Estados Unidos en el New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center.

Desde 2000 hasta 2015 trabajó en el Instituto Europeo de Oncología, donde llegó a ocupar el cargo de Vice-Director Senior de la División de Senología. Para el mismo instituto fue miembro del Scientific Review Board entre 2014 y 2015.

Es responsable de proyectos dirigidos a la conservación de la mama y de los ganglios axilares incluso después de quimioterapia neoadyuvante. Es experto en neoplasias mamarias familiares y hereditarias y en procedimientos preventivos de “reducción del riesgo” en mujeres con alto riesgo genético. Ha realizado personalmente más de 5000 intervenciones de cirugía mamaria. Es coordinador e investigador principal del estudio multicéntrico internacional SOUND sobre el estadiaje axilar en mujeres con cáncer de mama inicial.

Desde 2018 es miembro fundador, miembro del consejo directivo y vicepresidente de la asociación internacional de investigación sobre cáncer de mama EU-BREAST. Desde 2019 es miembro del consejo directivo de ANISC – Asociación Nacional Italiana de Cirujanos Senólogos.

Desde 2012 es miembro del panel europeo de expertos sobre cáncer de mama en mujeres jóvenes y durante el embarazo. El Dr. Gentilini es además miembro del Editorial Board del European Journal of Surgical Oncology y desde 2018 es Specialty Editor de la revista The Breast (Impact Factor 3.4). Es autor de más de 100 publicaciones internacionales y ha sido ponente invitado en más de 100 congresos nacionales e internacionales.
