Biography

Professor Massimo Filippi is Director of the Neurology Unit, the Neurophysiology Service, and the Neurorehabilitation Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. In addition, he is Head of the Functional Unit of the Biosignal Analysis Center and current Director of the Quantitative Neuroimaging Research Unit within the Neuroscience Division of the same Institute. He is Full Professor of Neurology and Director of the School of Specialization in Neurology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he is also President of the Degree Course in Physiotherapy, member of the Academic Senate, and member of the Steering Committee of the Interfaculty Center for Gender Studies.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 from the University of Milan, where he also obtained his medical license. He subsequently specialized in Neurology at the University of Milan (1990) and in Neurophysiopathology at the University of Pavia (1994). He began his academic career as adjunct professor at the School of Specialization in Neurology of the University of Chieti, in the Degree Course for Neurophysiology Technicians at the University of Milan, at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, and finally at the School of Specialization in Neurology and the Degree Course in Physiokinesitherapy of the same university.

He is member of important scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the Italian Society of Neurology, the European Neurological Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He is member of the Editorial Board of numerous international scientific journals and regularly works as a reviewer in the fields of neurology and neuroimaging, also for governmental bodies and private foundations. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology and Associate Editor of the journals Radiology and Neurological Sciences. He is author of more than 1000 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with a total H-index of 116 (Scopus), and 196 book chapters.
